Urban Designer

Registered Landscape Architect - Colorado

Jason is an urban designer and landscape architect whose work experience over the last two decades spans many miles, across several disciplines.

Prior to joining Civitas, his work ranged from large urban park design and campus planning in New York City, to forest ecology, high-end resort and residential design in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Jason joined Civitas in 2013 where he has been able to apply his design thinking both locally and globally to impactful urban projects that range from site design to complex urban planning at neighborhood, district and regional scales. He believes that challenges can be understood and solutions revealed by studying and exploring a place and its context and asking the right questions, motivating him to listen and understand clients, collaborators and their communities at a deeper level. This range of design experience has not only fueled his interests in the dynamic relationships between culture, politics and the impact that the built environment has on our lives and greater ecologies; but also his drive to solve big urban issues by pushing the possibilities of design thinking and communication.

A New Jersey native, Jason has embraced the Colorado lifestyle, frequently hiking, biking, camping, skiing and snowboarding with his wife, and traveling as much as possible.

Influences

On a trip to Barcelona, taken before I even knew about landscape architecture and urban design, I was mesmerized by the city’s layout and liveliness, the weaving of parks, the urbanity (a word I did not use at the time), and by the way all of these aspects were intentionally designed. Travel has had a big effect on the way I look at places and understand the impact we can have on them.”
