Scott Jordan has led many of Civitas’ most complex and challenging projects across North America and around the world. Having joined the firm in 2001 and finding mentorship in Mark Johnson, he now leads the day-to-day operations of the office, playing a prominent role in establishing, maintaining and curating the culture that fuels Civitas’ interdisciplinary design process.
The transformative effect that landscape architecture and urban design have on cities is what drew Scott to this profession nearly 20 years ago; and over the years he’s developed a passion for engaging the public throughout the design process, further deepening the relationships between people and place. His focus on the public realm is driven by a desire to create social interactions and build a sense of community by bringing people of diverse backgrounds together. A prime example of this commitment was his design efforts for Calgary’s St. Patrick’s Island and for the North Embarcadero Improvements to San Diego’s waterfront. Scott has led large-scale projects across the country including the Balboa Park Master Plan in San Diego, the Los Angeles River Revitalization Master Plan, as well as the design of the Ann and Jim Goodnight Museum Park in Raleigh. His recent work includes a vision plan for the Jones Center Campus in Springdale, Arkansas, creating a much-needed public gathering space for an important community – and galvanizing Scott’s belief in the power of community engagement, and in the importance of authentically connecting and actively listening.
Scott’s work has won several national design awards; he’s been an invited lecturer and guest critic at universities across the country; and he has presented at numerous national design conferences. His communicative style, quick wit, and ability to synthesize inputs of all forms enable him to be an effective leader and decision maker.
