Yiran Yang

Designer

Yiran’s childhood experiences in the woods of southern China have had a profound impact on her life and career. Her love for nature and the environment led her to pursue a degree in landscape architecture in Beijing, where she was struck by the lack of green spaces in urban areas. This realization fueled her interest in the impact of the environment on human populations, particularly in urban settings.

Yiran’s approach to landscape architecture is deeply rooted in her experiences with nature and her desire to integrate the diversity of human experiences into her designs. She draws inspiration from the plants, people, and creatures that inhabit each site, and strives to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also functional and sustainable. Yiran’s passion for creating meaningful spaces that benefit communities is what drew her to Civitas. She was impressed by the company’s commitment to placemaking and its collaborative culture. At Civitas, Yiran has had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, from small public parks to large-scale urban developments.

Outside of work, Yiran enjoys exploring various forms of art, watching movies, cooking Chinese cuisine, and occasionally trying her hand at Italian dishes.

Influences

The other designers at Civitas definitely have been huge influences on my design approach. Compared to other firms, Civitas is a very collaborative environment, so even though I am one of the newer designers, I’m given the chance to learn and develop my skills on each project I work on.”
