Soonhyuck “Soon” Choi

Urban Designer and Planner

An urban designer at Civitas, Soonhyuck ‘Soon’ Choi came to the United States in 2013 to pursue a master’s in urban design at the University of Colorado Denver. During his studies, one of his professors was Heath Mizer, also a Civitas designer.

Soon had originally planned to pursue his doctorate degree after earning his masters and reached out to Heath for a letter of recommendation. However, Soon changed his plans and reached out to Heath to thank him for the letter, but to inform him he was no longer going to pursue ongoing education. Heath responded by encouraging Soon to apply for an open position at Civitas – and the rest is history. Having worked at Civitas since 2015, Soon has developed a deep understanding of master planning and a passion for working on neighborhood design projects. His overarching goal is to leave a lasting positive impact and inspire the younger generation to do the same.

Influences

Having worked on Broomfield Town Center since 2016, I’ve had the opportunity to experience this project through every phase from competing for the work, design validation, zoning and entitlements, working with the city, and of course architecture and design. It is definitely my epic project, and I continue to learn and gain much fulfillment from it.”
