Yiran Yang

Raised in a small city in south China, I spent my childhood picking mushrooms in the woods, which I credit with instilling both a sense of independence and a deep love for landscape. When I relocated to Beijing to study, the lack of green space and access to nature in the city was jarring, and fueled my interest in the effect that the environment, and in particular the urban environment, has on human populations. I draw inspiration from plants, people and creatures that inhabit each site and strive to integrate the multiplicity of their experiences into landscapes. I also see landscape and plants as a healing tool in mental and emotional issues. I am a person who loves art very much and have a great passion for hand-painting. In my spare time, I practice hand-drawing by colored pencil and ink, and use this skill as a powerful medium to express my ideas and feelings. Outside of the office, I enjoy movies, reading, various types of art and cooking Chinese cuisine alongside the occasional Italian dish.
