Fast Company’s Innovation By Design Honors Civitas

Civitas and W Architecture and Landscape Architecture have been lauded by Fast Company magazine’s 2016 Innovation by Design Awards for the revitalization of St. Patrick’s Island Park in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. “This year’s submissions were as strong as any we’ve ever seen, with more than 1,700 entries from 41 different countries,” said Fast Company Editor Bob Safian about the competition in which the Civitas/W project was honored in the “Spaces, Places, Cities” Category. Excellence on the Waterfront Award for St. Patrick’s Island Park

Civitas breaks ground on West Tampa’s Riverfront Park

The Civitas/W team was joined by Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn at the groundbreaking of the new Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park, Monday, July 18, 2016. Mayor Bob Buckhorn said at a mid-morning ceremony, “I think we understand as a community the value of parks in our city. They are the common ground.” Clearly, Mayor Buckhorn really gets it. “It is the project that is the most transformative for West Tampa,” Buckhorn said. He said when Gallon and other North Boulevard Homes residents return to a redeveloped neighborhood, “they won’t have to live in a gang-infested, violent public housing project. They can live in a community that they are proud to call home and where everyone enjoys the same benefits.” The 23-acre redevelopment project will be the biggest park project in Tampa’s history. Completion of the park should be in 18 months and include new fields, courts, green spaces and a performance pavilion. Read more…
