Sam Kirchner,
Designer
Sam Kirchner is an urban designer and landscape designer with interests in the social, economic and environmental aspects of the built environment. After receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Studies from Iowa State University, he spent several years working at landscape architecture firms in New York City and Dallas, Texas, where he helped design and document everything from urban plazas to master-planned communities. Curiosity in the bigger picture drove him to pursue a Master of Urban Design from the University of Michigan, where he gained exposure to a variety of broad architectural theories and an understanding of real estate and planning policies. He hopes to use his experiences thus far to contribute toward more responsible future development in landscape architecture, and ensure that the built environment is deliberately crafted to serve purposes outside of pure market demand and profit.
