Rebecca Asser – Designer

Rebecca joined Civitas in May 2022 as a landscape designer motivated to create thoughtful and enduring places that reflect complex social and environmental narratives. After four years in early elementary education, she found landscape architecture through copy editing and was encouraged to apply to North Carolina State University after moving two doors down from a landscape architecture firm. During her MLA at North Carolina State University, Rebecca was nominated as a Landscape Architecture Foundation 2022 Olmsted Scholar and Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center’s Global Change Fellow. She was nominated for her work with the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, conducting research to promote culturally responsive and ethnobotanical streambank and wetland restoration. She is also the recipient of the 2022 Student ASLA Award of Excellence in Community Service for her work designing educational rain gardens and curriculum guide with Princeville Elementary School. Rebecca brings her diverse professional experiences to the Civitas team with interests in historic and cultural landscapes, ethnobotany, education, and social and environmental sustainability.
