From Underutilized Street to Resilient Park
Most cities, including Denver, have been experiencing a wider range of severe weather with increasingly intense rainfall due to a shifting climate. Hale Parkway cuts on a diagonal through the Montclair neighborhood – because it follows the path of an historic stream. The stream was piped and placed under a romantic scenic parkway as part of a 20th century idea of a city wide parkway system, a vestige of the City Beautiful era.
Civitas developed this master plan to unearth and daylight the stream, reduce the size of the road, and to develop a more climate and ecologically resilient park to unify the neighborhood, created recreational experiences and connect people to nature close to home.
