Edmonton City Centre Airport

Civitas teamed with Foster and Partners to develop this finalist scheme for the redevelopment of this 550 acre site in the northern neighborhoods of Edmonton. With the boom in oil and arctic development based in Edmonton, the city is growing rapidly and developed a new international airport, leaving this site for redevelopment.

The team proposed developing a centralizing open space system with fingers of green parks and natural areas penetrating into five village cores. All site stormwater will be gathered into the central system to establish a mosaic of naturalized habitats for wildlife, water quality, carbon sequestration, and recreation. This system connects clusters of high density along its edges with lower, compact development clusters connecting to existing neighborhoods surrounding the site.
