#CivitotInspo continues with a fun interview with Sam Kirchner and how he gets into his creative mindset.
Do you have a morning ritual that gets you into a creative space for your workday?
I find that I tend to be more inspired to work creatively on days when I’m listening to music during my morning ritual, even if it’s just belting out the lyrics to 2000s-era emo songs on my drive to work. If I get stuck in a creative rut during the day, taking a step back from the computer and taking a walk around the neighborhood to get coffee usually does the trick.
What type of music (if any) helps you get into a creative or prolific mindset in or out of the office?
I’ll listen to just about anything, but I tend to gravitate toward a healthy balance of indie and rap/hip hop. Finding the right song/album/playlist from either genre can really set the tone for the day.
Any other fun facts about your creative process?
I find that it’s incredibly important to draw inspiration and knowledge from past design experiences, whether it’s a project that I helped bring to fruition, read about, or simply visited in the past. Looking at old pictures of past projects can help us to learn from successes and failures.
