This month’s round of #CivitotInspo explores what makes #civitot Robin Rooney Norcross tick.

Do you have a morning ritual that gets you into a creative space for your workday?

Anyone who knows me, knows that mornings are not my specialty. However, I have learned that my best days start with a bit of putzing around my house, walking my dogs and a great cup of coffee. Something that allows me to focus on my day ahead without racing out the door.

What type of music (if any) helps you get into a creative or prolific mindset in or out of the office?

My love of music is very eclectic, and likely genetic. At the office I am likely listening to old indie music; Neutral Milk Hotel, Radiohead, Belle & Sebastian. But outside of work I can be swayed by Pink Floyd, Phish, Irish folk music…there isn’t much I don’t enjoy. I love to play classical music on my piano, and I love to see loud live music. Music has the ability to hold memories, whether remembering a specific live show with best friends or laying on the carpet in the dark with my Mother singing at the top of our lungs. But it also is a path to the future, as a conversation starter. My dearest friendships all grew from our shared love of music.

Any other fun facts about your creative process?

Seems my process always begins with a question and never an idea. And from there I look for answers and knowledge of the place. My family always tells me my first words were “but what if?”, so it seems I have found the right profession.
