Civitas and Fentress Architects submitted the winning competition entry, designed and implemented the first phase of the new Incheon Airport. The airport has since received numerous awards as the most passenger-friendly airport in the world. The site was developed on fill dredged from the ocean floor to include a 150 hectare International Business Center on the roadway connecting the airport island to the mainland.

Civitas and Fentress were also finalists in the second phase of airport development for the creation of a second cross-field terminal and business center. This scheme proposes the use of a saltwater inlet to create a center for a proposed commercial airport aerotropolis, or airport city. The scheme uses the lake to create signature sites for hotels, conference centers, and a dense cluster for business and entertainment.
